Where do you start building an online business?

Wow.  Isn’t this the question of the decade?  Given that the 2000’s have rocketed our society online.  It also tends to be the most mystifying question for anybody looking to start a business online.  So… where do you begin?

The answer will likely frustrate you as much as it has frustrated many, many online marketers.  You must start with yourself.  Huh? you’d say… Well, it may not be the absolute first thing you must tackle and figure out, yet it is one of the most important elements of your online business.  Here’s a question to ask yourself… “WHAT?  do I want to sell or market online?”  Oh.  Sounds easy?  Ok.  Have you ~really~ given it serious thought?

The best thing for you to sell or market online is something that you are or can be passionate about.  The passion will keep you inspired, motivated, and trudging through all the tasks that you might otherwise put aside.  It also makes you more convincing to the people you intend to market to.  So, again, what do you want to sell or market online?

Sometimes, it takes a while to figure out exactly what you intend to build your business around.  There are a number of options available for actually making money with your idea.  You could sell an actual product, if you have it.  What if you don’t?  Then, you’ll need to either get it manufactured or find a supplier.  Seem a little daunting?  It could be.  If you don’t have significant funds for up front investment, you won’t have anything to sell.  And, you haven’t even invested in the web site, design, and marketing in order to sell your idea.  Ow!

There is no need to give up on your dreams yet.  The internet has a number of ways to build a business without having your own physical product.  Yet, that’s why its important to have a sense of what you’re passionate about and what type of online business you’d like to build.  If you want to sell your ‘own’ product(s), you can arrange to work with a drop-shipper.  A drop-shipper is a distributor or manufacture that will take your orders and ship the product(s) for you.  A drop-ship arrangement can save you thousands in buying product(s), storing them or warehousing them, and the overhead necessary to ship your own product.  It does usually require a certain degree of credit and a credit line with the drop shipper.

Another way to sell or market products that you are passionate about is to enter into an affiliate relationship with a seller.  As an Affiliate, you would market a product or products on behalf of another business.  The affiliate company would track the traffic you sent to their website(s) and credit your account for any sales.  You would have no responsibility for the costs of having the products or shipping.

Is it sounding any easier at this point?  Maybe a little confusing?  That’s understandable.  My descriptions above are on the ‘slightly’ simplified side.  There are definitely pros and cons to each model of business I’m talking about.  For instance, a drop shipper will require more credit and is somewhat involved in setting up a relationship or relationships.  Not to mention the technical aspects of setting up ordering for drop shipped items.  The affiliate relationship, on the other hand, is usually relatively easy to set up because there is limited commitment on your part.  Affiliate commissions, on the downside, offer far less revenue for you than selling your ‘own’ product(s).  And, typically, there is a delay between when you sell something and when you get paid commission.

So, what do you do?  Well, maybe you don’t jump right into building a website, and do a little research.  I’d suggest starting with some market research.  On the simple side, you can begin doing searches in the search engines to learn how many people are selling in the area of your interest.  Don’t be put off too easily because typically anything you search for will have a LOT of returns and websites.  That could be a good thing.  Consider that if something is not being sold on the internet by many people, it is possible that it just doesn’t sell well.  The opposite spectrum would be that a market with a lot of competitors could be extremely difficult to break into.  So, don’t stop there.  Be sure to search on a variety of terms that are relevant to your topic/product(s).  Investigate the sites you find in the listings.  Are they really selling your product(s) or idea?  If so, what are they selling and how much are they selling them for?  How are they selling?  Tip: make a lot of bookmarks on the sites you find and put them in a place you can go back to.  As you get into the detail of these “competitor” sites, determine if they are selling the product(s) themselves (do they have a shopping cart?), or if they referring you to another site (hence, an affiliate) when you try to purchase.  This can give you some insight into their costs, strategies, or even a supplier.

I’m sure all of this is already beginning to confuse you or you’re getting information overload.  If not, continue reading the other posts and pages.  If so, just start at the beginning and begin to think about what you want to sell or market, then go searching.  Its a good idea to really get to know your potential market a bit before you begin spending any money on web sites or product investments.

BluePrint to Profits Coaching Program – Questions?

My last post was about a coaching program a very successful friend of mine has put together for businesses.  If you haven’t taken the opportunity to visit his video and learn more about BluePrint to Profits, I highly suggest you do that right now.  This isn’t a time to procrastinate, because the word is the program may be closing very soon.  It’s been open for a week now and I’m surprised it didn’t close earlier.

Does Your Business need a Boost?

This blog is generally focused on the home business market or businesses that may be just getting into marketing on the internet.  So, many of the resources and programs I may post here aren’t generally targeted toward an existing business.

This time, I have something that is slightly different.  This is more for existing businesses and isn’t necessarily internet marketing related.  This, is a resource that can be highly valuable for any existing business.

A friend of mine has been a business coach for a lot of years.  He has helped small and larger businesses increase their revenues to the tune of more than $300million as their business coach.  Recently, he has decided to bring his knowledge and skill to bear on a broader spectrum of businesses.  This friend, is Paul Lemberg.  Paul has created a coaching program from his coaching successes that he can now provide to more than just a few clients.  This new program is called BluePrint to Profits.

If you have a business that is already operating and you want to take advantage of coaching from a highly successful business coach, you really should check out this program.  Paul has already posted several videos with valuable strategies for improving your business.  Click on the BluePrint to Profits graphic below and sign up to see the videos and the program offered.  Its worth checking out, for your business.

Blogging is SO Easy!

For those that haven’t tried it yet, blogging can be just so easy.  After the blog is set up, which is relatively easy in itself, posting articles takes very little effort.  Your most difficult challenge will be coming up with fresh topics on a regular basis.  You don’t even have to be at the computer to post regular blog posts on your own blog.  Blog software, such as WordPress (this blog), allows you to pre-create any number of posts and schedule their appearance on your site.  In addition, you can also just send an email to your blog for an article to post.

When its that easy, what excuse do you have left for not posting?  Of course, we can all still whine about not having the time (really?) or know what to post about.

Check it out!

The $100M Dollar Challenge

One of my goals for eBiz-Resources is to provide information about internet marketing opportunities that people without much experience can take advantage of. A term used in the internet marketing world, called a ‘launch’, is used when a new product, service, or site is released for public access or sale. Last week there was a big one that people with little to no experience can take advantage of.

The Zero to 100 Million Dollar Challenge was launched last Thursday afternoon. It had a bit of a bumpy start because the response was more than expected… it created havoc on the internet hosting server of the site. The $100M Dollar Challenge is the baby of Russell Brunson and his company, DotComSecrets. Russell is an information marketer of internet marketing services. Mostly, he teaches people how to build a business online and make a ton of money. He started out like everyone else and discovered what worked over time. Now he operates a multi-million dollar company with a number of employees and products. Russell is also known as a ‘Super-Affiliate’. A Super-Affiliate is an affiliate marketer that is very good and makes a lot of money selling other people’s products.

But, BACK to the point. YOU, whether you have a little experience or a lot, have an opportunity to learn how Russell does it and for no charge. Russell and his team have put together a free program to teach people how to build an online business. All you have to do is SIGN UP. In this contest he is also giving away a brand new Corvette. That’s right. How do you win? By participating, telling your story, and creating changes in your life through his program. Not a bad deal, eh?

So, How do you register? Go to the Zero to 100 Million Dollar Challenge right now.  You can participate even if you just logged onto the internet today.  Start working through the program today and you’ll begin learning as you go.  Internet marketing takes effort, contrary to what many get rich quick sites say.  This challenge doesn’t have all the answers, but it offers strategies that work for Russell.  It would be a great place to start.

Good luck and call me if you win the Corvette!  I wouldn’t mind a ride!

Home Business or Entrepreneur

For people that seek an easy way to make money, there are always sellers of the perfect product and ‘easy’ system. The trouble is, do they really work or are you just giving your hard earned money away? Is this the path you need to take to begin making some additional income or creating a whole new way to make a living?

Have you decided to pursue the internet to make additional income? Maybe you’ve decided you’ve had enough with the day job (or night job) and you’ve got to get out. Hey, you’re not alone. Ever wonder if those infomercials on late night TV that offer get rich quick “systems” ever make any money? You can be sure the folks selling them are making some bucks if they’re still around! I don’t know about the folks buying the products, but I’m sure there are lots and lots of folks in line for the get rich quick products.

If you’ve been searching the internet for “home business” or “internet business” you’ve probably found a lot of ‘guaranteed’ offers to make you money online, or at least to get you tons of traffic. There’s plenty of the “get rich quick” offers online as well as on late night TV. How about the “I was scammed” ads that offer you the guaranteed to work product?
